Borky: Boring and Quirky

P.L. Frederick @ Small And Big has tagged me with this meme, and I’m happy to oblige, since there are sooo many borky things to choose from. That said - I’ll start with the rules:

1) Link to the person who tagged me (P.L.). 2) Mention the rules. 3) Tell six quirky yet boring, unspectacular details about myself. 4) Tag 6 other bloggers by linking to them. 5) Go to each person’s blog and leave a comment that lets them know they’ve been tagged.

Now to the boring/quirky part:
I. A friend and I once put all our luggage in the boot of two nice Italian boys’ car on a backpack trip, and then climbed into the car ourselves. They’d invited us for a sight-seeing and a coffee. In hindsight, I’m surprised to say that’s exactly what we got. Great judges of character? Hardly. Lucky? Definitely.
II. Today, I’ll be making pancakes for our dinner. And a few other things.
III. I’ve cheated the grim reaper twice already.
IV. I’ve got green thumbs outdoors. Indoors, I kill everything - slowly.
V. I hate driving in big cities/heavy traffic (see # III), so if I have to go there without a driver, I take the train.
VI. I have 6 kids and an open house, and that’s lovely. Sometimes, though, I consider becoming a hermit. (Do hermits blog? If so, I’m seriously considering it…)

Now - to the tagging of the half-dozen… These are people who I believe would have a hard time coming up with anything boring about themselves. Quirky might be easier though!
Comedy Plus, Crazy Working Mom, Tinkerbell, Kai, Mary/the teach and Alice.

I’ve been tagged by Cindi (Moomette) to help spread the awareness on the ‘Breast Cancer Awareness’ month of June. Please help convey the importance of regular examination and early detection of breast cancer, maximizing the chance of survival and recovery.

Here are several facts on breast cancer that everyone should know about:

•The first sign of breast cancer usually shows up on a woman’s mammogram before it can be felt or any other symptoms are present.

•Risks for breast cancer include a family history, atypical hyperplasia, delaying pregnancy until after age 30 or never becoming pregnant, early menstruation (before age 12), late menopause (after age 55), current use or use in the last ten years of oral contraceptives, and daily consumption of alcohol.

Early detection of breast cancer, through monthly breast self-exam and particularly yearly mammography after age 40, offers the best chance for survival.

•Ninety-six percent of women who find and treat breast cancer early will be cancer-free after five years.

•Over eighty percent of breast lumps are not cancerous, but benign such as fibrocystic breast disease.

•You are never too young to develop breast cancer! Breast Self-Exam should begin by the age of twenty.

Resources: American Cancer Society National Cancer Institute Komen Foundation

You can help the lives of many women by spreading the word about The Breast Cancer Site pink button as many times as you can. If The Breast Cancer Site receives 8 million clicks on the pink button in June, their premier sponsor -Bare Necessities- will donate $10,000 for more free mammograms. CLICK the pink button today!

I tag everyone with breasts past or present - guys and girls alike.
Additional fact: Yes, boys, you can get it too.
Please join in to make yourself and others aware of how to detect this sneaking disease. I’m sure we all know someone who survived, and many knew someone who didn’t.
Click the button and spread the word…

Cascia of Healthy Moms tagged me with this - the challenge is to answer the following question:

” If you were the ruler of the world and you could have anything you wanted as well as have people do anything you wanted, do you think you would get greedy and mean or would you be a good and fair ruler? “

chaplin.jpg

I would rule as little as possible. I think that would be the fairest and best thing for me to do, because I could never presume to know what’s best for anyone else. I’d dispose of politicians, because they make it their business to presume just that - most of them without any experience of what real life is about for real people.
If I could get people to do what I wanted, I’d make sure that no religeous or other issue was grounds for war, and I’d make everyone understand that we all have this one life, and that every life is too precious to be taken in war or by random violence. If it were that easy, I’d also make sure that recreational drugs had no monetary value, thus liberating loads of land for growing food, and diminishing drug related crime around the world. Medical care would be free and available to all.

As for the environment - the various technologies (that already exist, but are held back for political and financial reasons…) for cleansing CO2, operating cars on Hydrogen and so on and so forth would be freed and put to use wherever possible. Environmental taxes, CO2 quotas and such nonsense would become obsolete, and whoever polluted would have to pay to have it cleaned up - not just pay to be allowed to pollute even more.

Once all this was sorted out, and all the child molesters, murderers and rapists were converted (remember, I can get people to do what I want!), I’d have to make myself obsolete. That would be imperative, because however benign my dictatorship may be, odds are the next one is a Hitler, Mussolini or Pinochet. The position as dictator of the world must become an impossible one to obtain…

P.S. Before I climbed down from the pedestal, I’d probably give in to my greedy streak and make sure I’d never have to work again. Sorry, world. The morale: don’t give unlimited power to anyone!

I’ve been tagged by Geekmom for the 7 weird or unique things about me meme…  Here goes, a random selection:

1. I went to medical school for two years, in France. Not wanting to become a doctor was my main reason for quitting…

2. I love snails in garlic butter. OK - escargots.

3. I married my first husband to give him a work permit, and because neither of us had anything better to do that week. We ended up together, and we had two lovely girls before splitting up several years later.

4. I live quite happily alongside my proliferous dust-bunnies. That’s a good thing. Had I had a problem with them and with all the mess 8 people + pets can make in a house, I would have driven myself and everyone else crazy. As it is, I do a huge clear-out once in a long while.

5. I’ve had 4 miscarriages and one Miracle Boy. One could say I’ve worked hard for the kids I’ve got.

6. I don’t have green thumbs indoors. My house plants have to scream: “Water me! I’m dying! Please!” over and over before I get it and toss some water their way. Needless to say, very few plants survive that regime. My Aloe does OK, and I’ve got a lovely green thing that needs virtually no TLC at all. The ones in the kitchen window stand a slightly better chance - I sometimes notice them before they die… The garden in summer is another story! It’s flowery, and green, and full of wonderful veggies. Go figure.

7. Dust bunnies excepted, we’ve got 35 farm animals and pets here all together.

Hm. I now get to tag some folks… I haven’t tagged anyone in ages, so I think I may be forgiven by the following: Empress Bee, Jeni, Kai, Morgen and Francine.

Only if you want to - have fun!

I was tagged with this meme by Blogging Sueblimely, and it’s the first Entrecard meme I’m tagged for… so thank you!

Entrecard has been very good for this blog, I get around and above 100 visitors every day now, and they don’t all drop and run, either… (Doesn’t sound like much? Before Entrecard, I had 15-20 - on a good day…)

Andrew Boyd explains what “above the fold” means and why it matters in this post Entrecard (and other ads) above the fold…

Rules-

  • Create a post on your blog that links back to this post.
  • Tag 8 bloggers not mentioned in this post who display their Entrecard widget above the fold and have great content.
  • Leave a comment on this post and share the link to the post you made.

I tag:
Claire from A Little Piece Of Me because she’s got nothing but time on her hands, and absolutely loves being tagged…
Alison from EleanorBlog because I enjoy reading her blog.
Thomas from Musings From A Male Knitter because then I get to tag a fellow Norwegian, and because he’s such a great knitter…
Tina from The Original MX5 blog, because she’s got 5 kids and still manages to blogX4!!!
Morgen from Captured By Gravity because it’s Morgens brand new site, and he’d love you all to pop over and say hello.
Tammy from Mom Knows Everything because all my 6 kids still believe that Mom knows everything. I think…
Heather from Geek Mom Mashup because she’s the only Geek Mom I “know”, and because I keep coming back to her blog…
The Mad WAHM from Mad WAHM because she’s got such great and to-the-point tips for working at home, and because I wanted to link to her.

Ok, people - don’t feel obligated to take part in this - but have fun if you do!

I’ve been tagged by Sandee at Comedy Plus for A Simple Game Of Tag. (I’ve tagged myself too, coz she said i could do it on both my blogs…)
It’s an easy viral one, and great for links exchange, so here we go:

The rule: When you get tagged, you have to add your site below the person who tagged you. By doing this you are letting the list grow. Then tag 5 others and let’s see how big this can get?
