I’ve landed myself yet another WAH job - as a freelance translator.
I’ve been accepted to do English -> Norwegian translations to start with, but when I’ve done a few jobs, I’ll submit test translations for French -> Norwegian too, as well as the other way round for both combinations.
I applied and was accepted yesterday, and I’ve already got two job offers, but I’ve got to download a whale of a translation tool first, and if it doesn’t crash my computer, I’ll be all set to start learn how the tool works in a couple of hours.
Payment? I haven’t really checked. They pay per word, I think. One good thing that comes with the deflation of the Norwegian Krone (it’s down by 30%) is that any payment in Euros or Dollars is worth 30% more here now than it was two weeks ago. Paypal are very good at keeping track of the exchange rates, and the transfer fees are small or nonexistant, so I’m a fan of both deflation and Paypal. At least for as long as our local prices stay put.
Not that my little nest egg in Paypal allows me to buy any Wilmington NC real estate or any real estate come to think of it, but it’s my micro-version of exchange rate speculation…
Back to my new job - the tool is still downloading, and this computer is still alive and responding. I’ll keep you posted about how these WAH jobs progress - I must figure out how the invoicing for the proofreading one works by the end of the month too, so I can get rid of the suspense as to whether they actually pay for services rendered or not. I have no reason to doubt it. It’ll be nice to see the figures though.
Oh - and I won’t post links to any of the places I work for. Not until I know first hand that they do pay. I’ll send you the info if you email me though.
