I haven’t updated for what seems forever… In fact, it’s only been a week, but I think it’s the first time since blogging began that I’ve left my blog hanging like this. Bad, bad form!
What I’ve been doing? Well, I’ve not been searching for the best diet pills, nor have I been away. And – I must confess – I have been blogging a bit, on my Norwegian blog.
You see – I’m this close to reaching the minimum payout on Adsense. It’s taken me 2 years (I think my universal blogaversary is on the 27th of this month – must check to make sure), and if I’m lucky, I’ll get there on or around that date.
So, what’s the big deal about that, you ask… Well, I never thought I’d get there at all. That’s not entirely true, but at the rate I was going, it looked like Google would be lining my pockets around Christmas time in 2010. After I started blogging in Norwegian, things changed, and it’s now looking like I’m going to be 2 years ahead of time.
I don’t know why. Maybe Norwegian surfers aren’t as “ad blind” as the rest of the world, the fact is that they surf differently. They click on ads. It also could be that all the ‘Net gurus are right – if you want people to do that, you have to blog about a specific subject, thus attracting an already interested audience and get relevant Adsense ads on your website. Which this targeted and interested audience is more likely to click on.
I’m terrible at sticking to any one subject, and I can’t say that I’ve succeeded completely, but the blog has an underlying theme, that comes out on a regular basis. And so, most of the ads are relevant to that theme. Another thing, of course, is that the Norwegian blogosphere is way, way smaller than its English speaking counterpart. Which means that it’s way, way easier to get to Google’s first page with a given keyword. That helps too.
So – in order to reach my little Adsense goal, I’ve let the side down.
We’ve also had a bit of a chaotic snow situation here in the last few days – hubby’s been working all hours clearing snow in a nearby town, and I’ve had my hands full trying to get the kids to wherever they’ve had to go, regardless of the weather. As well as keeping the little ones busy and quiet during those precious hours that hubby’s been able to sleep. Two days respite, and today, it seems old King Winter is at it again. The forecast is for another chaotic weekend. Oh, well. Every day brings us closer to spring…
