It's important for people to see how so many in the world (the poor in developing countries) really live. This way your daughter will really get to step into THEIR culture and country too - it won't be any sanitized or westernized version of it. She'll get to connect with the children and community that she is in. What an invaluable experience ;) I went to Calcutta, India with my parents when I was 10 - I really appreciate that they took me on a trip to one of the poorest cities in the world. I think I learnt more in Calcutta than I would have in a more wealthy and westernized country similar to my own (New Zealand).
