… say he had 2. If each of these had 2 children, and so on, down the generations for roughly 2000 years, there would be something like 16 billion people alive today, with ancestry dna traceable back to Jesus.

This, of course, would be true of any couple living in those days. Luckily for our planet, it doesn’t happen that way. War, the Black Plague, the Spanish Flu, bad hygiene, more war – all these things have made sure that we’re now a measly 6 billion people.

Theoretically, though, we’re all related to Jesus Christ – and to any old couple who lived back in the day. And to each other, come to think of it.

Hello, cousins!!!!!

Well, there are some that say he had kids …. ;)
Seriously though, how did you come up with that number ? I’d like to know how to calculate this! Theoretically speaking though, do you think the world would be a better place if Jesus did have children ?

Mama Shujaa Says:

Habari gani? Did your daughter leave for Kenya yet dear cousin?

Kreskowki Says:

Measly 6 billion people you say? We need to get to 4 billion as soon as possible. Earth is overpopulated and we better do something about it now before the natural resources run out.

What a great thought. Hi cousin!

Producent Schodow Says:

Hello cousin.

It is truth that we are all related to each other (maybe not all but the most – there was never full gen exchange between different races) in some sort of way. The gen diversity is a reason why we are still around. Without such diversity our bodies would become stagnant and then receive many recessive genes that lead to many diseases and damages. See for example cheetah. There are not many left of them – reproducing processes are circumscribed, the genes palette is getting smaller and smaller. And nowadays cheetahs are very weak and disease prone. Their genomes are in last recessive stage. That is also why cloning is not the answer :)

Village Idiot Says:

Jesus didnt have children, and even if he did your theory would still be wrong since Jesus was born 2000 some odd years after the beginning of time which had thriving ancient civilizations

Rich Wooger Says:

I would like to say that id Jesus Christ had children he would love them as he loves people.

Vince Ungar Says:

At first I thought I was going to hear you bring up the Da Vinci Code. If your estimates are correct that would seriously make for a large Christian population all by itself.

youdate Says:

Ahhh, the crux of “The DaVinci Code!” Will we ever know? I wouldn’t bet on it. Besides, there are far too many who would suppress the real answer, for one reason or another.

First of all, that “Snap preview”-thing really lags up my computer, and it takes like 30 seconds for it do dissappear… while it covers the screen…. each time I move the mouse accidentally over a link on the page, and frankly; you’ve got a few of those!

and to get to my point of commenting:
Theoretically, though, we’re all related to Jesus Christ – and to any old couple who lived back in the day. And to each other, come to think of it.

..like in, because he’s also the son of god, or because you believe a man just popped out and it all started with ONE couple? Man and woman? ..that would, theoretically, wierd.

Stine Says:

Adrian – I never said I believed either of those things. It’s just a chain of thought – starting with 2 people, moving on to 2, to 4, to 8, to 16, and so on. What happened before is not taken into account at all – the meganumber of people is what would be the result, IF they all had 2 kids, and IF everyone in every generation survived to have 2 kids of their own. All from one couple, 80 gnerations ago. Any couple living in those days would get the same result….
As for the “snap” – I believe you can disable it by clicking the little wheel in the top right corner.

John Says:

Some historics say that Jesus had got children, some say that hadn’t. As for me i think that Jesus hadn’t chlidren, because somebody must know about it!
