What are annoying telephone salespeople called? Phone spammers? I’ve reserved our landline against them, but they seem to be honing in on me now, so I guess I have to register our number again.

Today I’ve had two book clubs (A totally free welcome package – all you pay is p&p, and then you get to buy a book every month unless you remember to cancel. Fat chance that I’ll remember to cancel), an insurance company wondering if I was interested in term life insurance quotes (Iguess they need fresh capital now that the stock markets have gone down the drain) and the relentless crib death society. That last one really gets up my nose. They always start with thanking me (by my first name) for the tremendous amount of support I’ve given them in the past. (I bought a calendar 5 years ago). Yuk!

I’m thinking about adopting a tactic a friend of mine uses: say hello very nicely, and as they start their litany, put the phone down on the table and attend to other things for 10 minutes. She says they’re usually gone by the time she picks up the phone again…

Stumble it!

Dan Brantley Says:

Since we got Caller ID, we just don’t answer any out of area, blocked, private or unrecognized local calls. If it’s important, or they know us, they will leave a message. And interestingly, but not surprisingly 99% of the other callers never leave a message.

Vixen Says:

Oh, what a great plan! I am going to try that next time one calls.

Comedy Plus Says:

Oh I love this plan. I’m using it next time too. Love it. Have a great day. :)

Relax Max Says:

They always ask for a particular person in the family (usually me), and even if it is I on the phone already, I always ask if they can hold while I go get him. Then, of course, I lay the phone down and go watch tv. Sometimes, if I am in a particular foul mood, I will return and tell them to keep holding, that he’s on the way…

I’m guessing you already know that time is money to them. :)

But since they are rude, why not?

Shinade Says:

My husband will always let them go on and on and then with one of the funniest voices you could ever hear he asks,”What’s that again sonny or girly?”

That really irritates them and he has a ball doing it. I simply hang up. I used to try to be polite but now I just hang up.

They have been truly bad as of late. So we adopted a new plan also. We are doing away with our land line completely and just using our cells.

I hope it works.:-)
