This is not a whine…

I knew I was going to get slapped again, but not that it would happen so soon… Some time during the last couple of days, Google googled me, and must have found me sadly lacking, coz’ here I sit stand before you, a big fat zero stamped all over my face – again.
Turnip Of Power/Social Networking (whose blog/site everyone should read, by the way) told me so after I did a post on Izea (PPP). I know… I just found it too ridiculous that Google should bother with little old me. Now that I’ve seen it happen a second time, I probably have to believe it… It’s still ridiculous, though.

I don’t know what triggered it this time – I had all the PPP badges up when I was oh, so graciously given the PR3 – just under 4 weeks ago… I’ve avoided the “sponsored by” code up until very recently – maybe that’s what did it.

Do I care? On one level, yes. With PR being so widely recognized as it is, it will have some effect. What peeves me more is that PPP, the root of the problem, still uses PR as a parameter in their system. Get on with your RealRank, people! Educate your customers as well as your posties! No point in RealRanking blogs if PR is still both A and Z… (And why are there still PR5 blogs out there doing PPP? – what do they do that I don’t???)

On the other hand, my traffic is increasing, my Technorati authority is on the up, and my Alexa rank is getting better every week. That’s what matters. So, there will be no PPP opps – I’ll have to consider if I want to keep doing them, anyway. I don’t want to give in, but PR is Googles’ baby, they’ll do what they want with it, however ridiculous. It’s one or the other, it seems.

Oh, bother it! I enjoy blogging, and I’m sure I’ll find other ways to make those few extra bucks each month. PR or no PR, I’m the same, my blogging buddies are the same, and with Entrecard, I’m getting to “know” more of them too. Some people even say that blogging gets better with less paid posts – fancy that, hahaha!

Stumble it!

I’m sorry that this has happened to you again. It does suck. I’ve never done any paid posts, but know folks who were making a nice stack of side money. Them bam…Lost their ranking and there went the good ads. Not fair at all. :(

Jolene Says:

Hi!
Are you set up for Izea rankings? That is what PPP is using now instead of google PR. I haven’t had my blog long enough to get approved on PPP(those dang 90 days! LOL), but I’m already set up with the Izea ranking, and my friend who was getting almost nothing at PPP because of the whole google PR thing is getting a lot now that she has their ranking set up.

Øyvind Says:

Hi there, no offence but you should stay clear of PPP, its not nice to lure people like that. And that is what Google thinks about it as well.

Lets say you read a nice piece of political review in the paper a morning, in it they carefully slips a product in. Later you find out that the “political review” was only a piece written to fulfil an assignment payed by ScrudyBoodyru. (fiction product)

Wouldn’t that be misleading, kind of wrapping an ad inside a news-story to get more people to read the ad?

How will the blogosphere look like if all go PPP?

The point is, if you have to lure people to read an ad, it should be considered as spam. People don’t like to be lured, and people are customers of Google. If other advertisers in the newspaper you read that morning finds out that they also get payed pr post, they will quit buying ads in that paper.

Ooops sorry about the long comment. :)

Stine Says:

Mommie, Jolene, Comedy: Thank you.

Øyvind: Oh, I understand what you’re saying, and I agree with you up to a point.
But:
1. Google are more sophisticated than that. They don’t want people to buy/sell links using their PR, not because they think people are tricked, but because they want to keep the buying/selling link business to themselves.
2. You’re insulting peoples intelligence. I have ads and badges for ppp companies plastered all over my sidebar, as well as a disclosure that clearly states that some of my posts/links are paid for. If readers click a link, they do it out of choice.
Also, if I do offer an opinion, it’s my honest opinion, and I think I’m entitled to one, even if I’m paid to put it on my blog.
As for contextual links – they’re words put into context. The context is always genuine on my blog, the link is an extra. Again, if people click it, they do it out of choice. My content is my own, always.
3. If you believe everything you read in your morning paper to be squeeky clean, unbiased and unpaid for in one way or another, please tell me its name, and I’ll subscribe. At least, my links are highlighted and easy to identify…

Stine Says:

PS – I’m not offended – you’re entitled to an opinion too… I just couldn’t let this go unanswered.
And a little advice: Google will have you too if you keep running similar-looking Bidvertiser ads next to theirs. Nice blog, btw!

Anna Says:

Google slapped me down, too. I had two weeks with a PR 4, which was nice. Now, the opps are harder to come by, but they’re really still there. I’m seeing more that require RealRank instead of PR. Entrecard has helped me there. I have gotten a lot more traffic and even hit top 30% of blogs.
