I must say I wondered how it was possible.
But when I read up on it, I realized that forwardOn.com really did have a point. When you get all those funny emails from your friends and colleagues - you forward them, right? Ever wondered how many viruses you’ve spread? How much bandwith these attachments “steal” from you - and the friends you forward it to? How they affect your storage space?

Join forwardOn. Instead of forwarding the email directly to your contacts, send it to forwardOn after you’ve deleted all unwanted text like company names, email adresses an so on. They’ll scan it for viruses, post it on their site, and send you an instant reply with the link to your email. That way, you can forward the link to your friends and family, and spare their inboxes and computers. Good thinking, right?

Now - how about the “Go green” part? Well, there’s two ways to go green. By reducing the amount of bandwith and storage, you also reduce power consumption. You can’t do much on you own, but with millions of people doing it, it can make a big difference. Also, you collect points every time your email is viewed. You can redeem the points and donate to Go Green charities, or you can exchange them for gift cards for great free rewards for yourself.

In the process, you can have fun with the site. You get access to loads of amusing stuff that others have posted, and you can share it on facebook, myspace or even on your blog. You can invite your friends, which will earn you points also.

Sounds fun to me… and it makes sense too.

I love books. There’s nothing quite like curling up with a good book and a nice stash of snacks and drinks, in front of a roaring fire.
Provided, of course, that you know you’ll have a little time to enjoy it, and to really get into the book.
Any other mums out there? Anyone else see the problem with the scenario above?

Curl up, munch, open page-turner.
-Muuuum? where are my trainers? Answer. Politely. No luck - get up and get said trainers from designated spot in the hall.
Curl up again. Fumble with finding the page where you left off.
-Muuum? can i have a sandwich? Yes, dear, help yourself.
Back to book.
-Muuum? There’s no peanutbutter! No, dear. Use cyanide.
Munch. Now, where was I?
-Darling, have you seen the flashlight? Yes, dear, it’s in the utility room. No luck. Get up and get said flashlight from designated spot in the utility room.
Try again.
-Phone rings. Mum? can you find this/that/the other or check this/that on the Internet for me? Now, please… Of course, dear. Comply.
Forget that you were reading and fold a load of laundry - during which time you’re NOT disturbed.
After having emptied the dishwasher (again undisturbed) curl up again. Fall asleep after 5 minutes.

What about audio books? I’m sure they’re wonderful if you’ve got a lot of alone time on your hands (like if you’re commuting or crossing the Antarctic), and they’re fine if you’re pottering about the house all by yourself too.
However many free audio books I receive, they’d be quite useless to me. If I do get any alone time, I definitely go for peace and quiet. I rarely remember that there’s such a thing as music even… If I get to keep my hearing intact, I might get into them when I’m old and grey. For the moment, managing to get through an old fashioned one is challenging enough.

I think there’s something going on today - far away, over the ocean. Something that will have an impact not only on the United States, but on the world at large too.

I don’t know if you Americans are aware of the amount of coverage your election and election campaign is getting in other parts of the world. I can only comment on Norwegian media, but I’m sure the rest of Europe is just as “au fait” with what’s happening as we are.

Let me say that some of the coverage doesn’t help to subdue the feeling we sometimes get over here that you lot are somewhat weird… Aliens for mcCain? Obamas birth certificate? Palins grandchild? Who can slag the opponent the most times and the most viciously during a debate? It just goes to show that we’re as subjected to the media as you are - they pick and choose what to convey, and more often than not, it’s a slagging or a “juicy” rumor.

Any word on these guys politics?

In one way, I’m glad I’m not asked to vote for any of them - there’s no doubt as to which one is the more charismatic one, but with the baggage the other one has been forced to drag around (George jr), I’m amazed he’s still in the running, so there must be something there too.

Politics, anyone?

Yes, I know there are fundamental differences between Democrats and Republicans. The thing is - they both say they want change. Is that even possible? With the administration running along with business as usual, lobbyists making a (very good) living doing things most people would never consider, concessions always having to be made for corporate interests - is it remotely possible 1. to change anything and 2. to avoid corruption?

I don’t know.

I do know that any election in the US is a global one. As such, maybe we all should be asked to vote. It has impact on world economy, world peace, the environment and world politics as a whole.
One only has to look at history (not just the débacles of the last 8 years) to understand that whoever is elected will have a big say in more than just what concerns the US.
In the meantime, news reporters all over the world are having a field day. Tonight, they’ll get overtime as well - we’re up for an all-night coverage of the Election Day.

So please, people - exercise your right. For yourselves, for the US of A, and for the rest of the world.

Men and women are equal. They have the same rights, the same duties, the same worth.
Boys and girls are definitely different though.

My little 6 year-old princess is into all things pink, she plays with dolls and dollhouses, she loves arts and crafts… The tiny thug, who’s 2, becomes starry-eyed when he sees a tractor, and almost faints with glee when he’s allowed to ride in one. Anything with wheels that makes noise is his favourite toy.
Have we helped the situation along? Not consciously. Does it matter? I don’t think so. If she develops an interest for machines, that will be her choice - if he chooses to be a WAHF, that will be his (and his significant other’s).

Kids, when given the choice, will choose what appeals to them. Little boys, when given a doll, will more often than not take it apart to see what’s inside. Little girls might put the toy car to bed and tuck it in, if given nothing else to play with and “care for”…
It’s how most of us are made. It’s quite fun to observe, actually.

I’ve landed myself yet another WAH job - as a freelance translator.
I’ve been accepted to do English -> Norwegian translations to start with, but when I’ve done a few jobs, I’ll submit test translations for French -> Norwegian too, as well as the other way round for both combinations.
I applied and was accepted yesterday, and I’ve already got two job offers, but I’ve got to download a whale of a translation tool first, and if it doesn’t crash my computer, I’ll be all set to start learn how the tool works in a couple of hours.

Payment? I haven’t really checked. They pay per word, I think. One good thing that comes with the deflation of the Norwegian Krone (it’s down by 30%) is that any payment in Euros or Dollars is worth 30% more here now than it was two weeks ago. Paypal are very good at keeping track of the exchange rates, and the transfer fees are small or nonexistant, so I’m a fan of both deflation and Paypal. At least for as long as our local prices stay put.
Not that my little nest egg in Paypal allows me to buy any Wilmington NC real estate or any real estate come to think of it, but it’s my micro-version of exchange rate speculation…

Back to my new job - the tool is still downloading, and this computer is still alive and responding. I’ll keep you posted about how these WAH jobs progress - I must figure out how the invoicing for the proofreading one works by the end of the month too, so I can get rid of the suspense as to whether they actually pay for services rendered or not. I have no reason to doubt it. It’ll be nice to see the figures though.

Oh - and I won’t post links to any of the places I work for. Not until I know first hand that they do pay. I’ll send you the info if you email me though.
