I’ve been exploring and getting quotes on these things today:
Girders, is that what you call them? Their purpose is to keep the roof of our barn (that’s mushrooming in our yard) from falling down on our heads. A commendable purpose, if you ask me.
Here I was, thinking that our carpenters could slap some up, and that all they’d need was large enough materials… Nope. They have to be factory made, and delivered by crane. Probably a good idea. I don’t really want the boys to fall down or get heavy logs over their necks or something while working here…
So – to the title of this post, and to the point. We have the good life here, as we see it. I sometimes wonder, though, what it would be like to not have to think about roof constructions – like – ever, to be able to go to the movies whenever, or off on a weekend break, without a thought to the beasts (or brats, for that matter…). No construction work, no landscaping, no growing of vegetables in the summer, no worrying about feeding and watering half a zoo in the winter…
What do people do? The gym? We have nature right at our doorstep – it’s free, and we use it just a bit more than most well-intentioned people use their gym memberships… We also get to lift heavy objects, extract lambs that are stuck, haul timber, pull shrubbery, carry huge rocks and push lawnmowers and wheelbarrows on a regular basis. No need to strut around indoors in pink condom suits to build muscle by way of complicated contraptions. (Oh, the picture of that!!! Not pretty…)
Did I say to the point? While rambling on, I think I’ve decided there is none. Other than this, perhaps: We all try to choose the life we’d like to live. Whether it’s a life in the rural or the urban jungle, whatever works for you, right? Those of us who’ve had a choice should count ourselves lucky. The great part of course, is that we can visit the other side, and experience the exotic lifestyle of other people – be it city or outback – any time.
