Before it wasn't like this only because not so many people has got a site to link to, they only identificates with the site in which they were making the comment. However I don't think that a link in the signature may have a great value... I to sometimes get the random "great post" then the link to their blog/shop with someone I had never seen before. I don't click those links myself *shrugs.* Unfortunately, I know a lot of people tell others as advice, especially on Etsy, to put their links everywhere. This has gotten people in trouble with sites that have in their rules to not spam, or use the site to advertise. I believe flickr has shut down a great number of accounts because of the Etsy spam there. I know exactly how you feel.
