The Roman Empire was great at bastardizing and making uniform a religion across its lands, giving the emperor the unearned top rung of the ladder to God, and then added the church to his army. Wanting to remain in favor, the rich/educated subscribed to the religion who then insisted their minions do the same. In order to be more palatable to so many, Constantine had to reinvent Jesus to cover the fact that it was the Romans that murdered him, and they came up with “he died for their sins.” Knowing full well that it’s impossible for anything material to be consubstantial with God (of the same substance), they turned Jesus into the son of God. The final blow to the religion was making the Christ Principle one and the same as Jesus, which cut the last tie to everyone’s access to God within, making God anthropomorphic and out of reach without intercession.

Historically, all religions die when they insist on sticking to the dead letter of the writings. Nowadays if a teacher appeared, he/she would either be lost in the melee of the times, or killed way before teaching a thing. At this point, the school house is burning down.
