Cascia of Healthy Moms tagged me with this - the challenge is to answer the following question:
” If you were the ruler of the world and you could have anything you wanted as well as have people do anything you wanted, do you think you would get greedy and mean or would you be a good and fair ruler? “
I would rule as little as possible. I think that would be the fairest and best thing for me to do, because I could never presume to know what’s best for anyone else. I’d dispose of politicians, because they make it their business to presume just that - most of them without any experience of what real life is about for real people.
If I could get people to do what I wanted, I’d make sure that no religeous or other issue was grounds for war, and I’d make everyone understand that we all have this one life, and that every life is too precious to be taken in war or by random violence. If it were that easy, I’d also make sure that recreational drugs had no monetary value, thus liberating loads of land for growing food, and diminishing drug related crime around the world. Medical care would be free and available to all.
As for the environment - the various technologies (that already exist, but are held back for political and financial reasons…) for cleansing CO2, operating cars on Hydrogen and so on and so forth would be freed and put to use wherever possible. Environmental taxes, CO2 quotas and such nonsense would become obsolete, and whoever polluted would have to pay to have it cleaned up - not just pay to be allowed to pollute even more.
Once all this was sorted out, and all the child molesters, murderers and rapists were converted (remember, I can get people to do what I want!), I’d have to make myself obsolete. That would be imperative, because however benign my dictatorship may be, odds are the next one is a Hitler, Mussolini or Pinochet. The position as dictator of the world must become an impossible one to obtain…
P.S. Before I climbed down from the pedestal, I’d probably give in to my greedy streak and make sure I’d never have to work again. Sorry, world. The morale: don’t give unlimited power to anyone!
